Our Gospel of Mark Bible study continues.
Today we are studying Mark 8:11 – 21, almost an intermission from all the miracles Jesus has been doing – but in this “intermission” is an important teaching for disciples of Jesus.
After reading this section of Mark’s Gospel consider the following questions:
- What does Jesus tell the disciples to beware of?
- The Pharisees demand a sign, but Jesus won’t do one. That is interesting because he has done all kinds of signs already – what do you think motivates Jesus to do a “sign”?
- What effect does yeast have on flour dough? How much do you need for this effect?
- What do you think is the yeast of the Pharisees?
The Pharisees want to see a big sign, the disciples who have seen all kinds of signs don’t seem to expect any, and Jesus seems to be trying to get them (us) to understand – what are we to understand?
